In Jesus’ day, it was considered a necessary form of nourishment. While the Israelites wandered in the wilderness, God provided Manna, which fell from heaven, to care for their physical needs. Later, He sent His Son, Jesus to fulfill a spiritual need that no one and nothing else could fulfill. John 6:58 states, “This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” Just as bread sustains us physically, Jesus is the only true sustenance who can satisfy our need of salvation.
